Editing a Policy (SDA & RG)

A few important things to note:

  • Policies can be edited within 14 days of the coverage start date. If a policy is within its 14-day revision window, you'll see an orange banner stating "Review and update information by [date]."
  • For Renter Guarantee policies, please reach out to our support team if you need to update the rent amount after purchase.

To request a change:

  1. Log in at portal.sayrhino.com
  2. Search for the policy under the Policies tab
  3. Select the active policy and click “Edit”

  1. Input the necessary revisions
    1. Note: The lease start date reflects the information originally provided by your property.
  2. Click "Update Policy"

  1. A banner will appear stating "Waiting for resident confirmation of the following changes: ____"

  1. Contact your resident and ask them to log in to their Rhino + Jetty portal to confirm the changes
    1. Note: The resident must confirm within the 14-day revision window for the changes to take effect. If the changes affect their premium, they will be charged or refunded the difference.
  2. Once confirmed, the policy will update to reflect the corrections

Why is the RG policy showing as an SDA policy in the portal?

Renter Guarantee (RG) is currently only available in Excess & Surplus (E&S) insurance markets. In Admitted states, RG isn't licensed to be issued — so any policy written in an Admitted state will show and operate as a Security Deposit Alternative (SDA) policy instead, even if the property is otherwise set up to offer RG.

You may also see an RG policy labeled as SDA even in an E&S state. That's because some RG policies are built on the same underlying policy type as SDA, just relabeled "Renter Guarantee" for display — so occasionally a portal screen may show the SDA label instead.

Either way, this reflects how the policy was actually issued, not an error. If you have questions about a specific policy or which states currently support RG, reach out to your Rhino contact.
